Meet SUPERNATURAL’s Lauren Cohen

The second female regular being added to SUPERNATURAL this season is Bela, a supernatural arms dealer of sorts. Bela is being played by actress Lauren Cohen.

Here are a few pictures of SUPERNATURAL’s Lauren Cohen from The CW TCA’s:

SUPERNATURAL Spoilers: Kripke Sets Us Straight

Supernatural The CW

This weekend, TVGuide’s Pooper Scooper Michael Ausiello got to sit down with SUPERNATURAL Creator and Exec. Producer Eric Kripke to hash out some of the online rumors that are spreading.

It all began when casting of two female “regulars” was announced. Fans freaked the frak out! How could Kripke introduce two “love interests”? How can they mess up the dynamics of the show? How could they, how could they, how could they? I didn’t think anything because I wanted to know more about these girls. Who are these two women coming to possibly temp our beloved Winchester boys?

Ruby (played by Katie Cassidy) is a demon hunter who’s a bit of a loose cannon. Bela (love the name btw - played by Lauren Cohen) is a sort of demon arms dealer. She works in amulets and other magical trinkets on the black market.

So, what does Eric Kripke have to say about these girls and what does he have to say to all of us rabid fans?

Eric Kripke: First of all, I love our fans. I love them to death. I love how passionate they are. But they tend to worry unnecessarily. They tend to get stressed before they have a chance to judge the finished product. We are so conscious and aware of our fans. We’re making the show for the fans; we’re not making the show for the network. We would never do anything to betray them. I’m not saying we’re perfect. I’m not saying we don’t make mistakes. But we’re very conscious and aware. And when we do make mistakes, we course-correct. So if I can get any message to them, it’s, ‘Don’t worry. We’re making choices based on what’s best creatively for the show.

Kripke: …The trick, we feel, is to introduce them as fleshed-out characters with their own inner lives, and then see what develops. And the other thing is, the girls are very separate and very different. And very rarely are they in the same episode, because they’re each serving very different story lines. Ruby (Katie Cassidy) is this demon hunter, who is ruthless and a little crazy and rough around the edges, and doesn’t share the same moral conscience that either of the boys share. A little unhinged in that way. There’s going to be a big twist about Ruby very early on. As early as Episode 2 you’re going to learn something very fascinating about Ruby.

And what about Bela?
Kripke: Bela (Lauren Cohan) is actually something we never presented on Supernatural before, which is someone who lives in this world who actually isn’t a hunter. She’s a thief and a mercenary. And all of these amulets and magical objects that the boys are always stealing and using to fight creatures are actually worth a lot of money. And there’s someone to buy and sell them. And she’s really not interested in the altruistic or obsessed or revenge-minded motives of hunting. She’s interested in a free-market economy and making a buck. She’s in it for herself. That’s someone they’ve really never come across before. ‘I don’t really care if you stop that ghost, I want that amulet,’ which if she disappears with it, the boys are screwed.

TV Podcast 11: Ducky and GMMR take a dip in the technical difficulties pool and come out swinging.

BIG BROTHER 8 has arrived and we’re obsessed. We talk spoilers, live feeds, and our favorites. What do we think about BURN NOTICE? PSYCH’s back on USA. KATHY GRIFFIN does gay porn and RESCUE ME forgets to rescue one of their own.

Do we need two karaoke shows? We dissect SPELLING BEE and DON’T FORGET THE LYRICS.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE continues to dominate the summer and we talk about our new favorites.

A little TRANSFORMERS talk? Sure, just a bit. COMIC-CON? Yes, we’re now Comic-Con geeks and we preview our trip at the end of July. PUSHING DAISIES, MOONLIGHT, BIONIC WOMAN and other Fall Shows.

Ducky Does COMIC-CON

Comic-ConAs you’ve maybe heard me mention in one or two posts, I’m taking my first trip to San Diego’s COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL in two weeks.

Comic-Con has moved beyond the manga lovin’, furry wearing, swoard bearing, trekkies you’re thinking about right now. It’s more than a comic book convention. It’s a sci-fi convention as well. That doesn’t make it sound any less geek central does it? It’s turning into a Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy Film and TV Convention as well. Sound better? I thought so.

As you know, I’m one of the people that runs The Independent Film Festival of Boston (shout out Nancy, Brian, and Christine who regularly read the blog and are my cohorts) and obviously you know I’m a big TV geek. The chance to see panel discussions, meet creators of film and tv shows I love, see sneak previews of films and tv shows I love is just too big. I must go!

GMMR and I are shacking up in San Diego for the week and we’ll be meeting up with Rae, The TV Addict, Seat42f and many other tv bloggers (as well as 250,000 of our closest and scariest friends) to cover all things fall tv! We’re also hoping to do a huge TV Bloggers Podcast or two!

What shows are gonna be there? The list is big and here are the ones I plan on attending in some capacity.

TORCHWOOD (BBC America’s spin-off of Doctor Who)
LOST
REAPER
MOONLIGHT
24
CHUCK
PUSHING DAISIES
BIONIC WOMAN
TVGuide’s Hot List and Super Women
HEROES
KYLE XY
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
SUPERNATURAL
SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES
SARAH SILVERMAN PROJECT
BUFFY’s 10th Anniversary
TIN MAN
The 4400
JERICHO

Granted some of these panels overlap so there will be a few that get missed but TV wise, this is my dream list. There are also a number of film events that I want to attend.

Paramount Studios Presentation, Lionsgate Presentation, FANBOYS (with Kristin Bell), Warner Bros Films, 20th Century Fox, Shoot Em Up, Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN!!!!!, Rogue/Focus films, The Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton and many more.

Kinda crazy, huh?

Are any of you guys going? What do you want me to find out or meet or see while I’m there? Let me know.

    Supernatural Season Finale

    Supernatural Finale

    Supernatural “All Hell Breaks Loose”

The Winchester boys had one hell of a sophomore finale. One died, the other sold his soul to the devil to resurrect the other, their dead Father crawled from the depths of hell to wrassle with the Yellow Eyed Demon, Sam may or may not have come back from the dead a little different (hey it happened to Buffy) because he was more than willing to pop a cap in another human’s ass (granted that bitch - Dean’s words not mine - deserved it), the Roadhouse burned to the ground killing a bunch of hunters and our beloved and mulleted Ash, and finally Dean was able to kill YED with the famous COLT, putting an end to that chapter of their lives of torment. YED killed their Mother and Jessica and forced these two into the lives they lead now and it was incredible to see Dean waste this demon.

Oh, did I mention that they opened the gates of hell for a few minutes which released a couple hundred evil spirits back onto Earth?

Yeah, I guess this is where we’ll be going for Season 3. Well, there and on Sam’s quest to get Dean out of his one year life contract with the Devil. Should be a season of fun, sun, and puppies…

Speaking of puppy…dog eyes… could Jensen have been better in his crying scenes? He was really impressive, as we’ve not really had many moments where Dean’s lost it over the last two seasons. I love his dedication to his brother and his promise to always protect Sammy, even if it means giving back the borrowed time he’s already living on. He’s the real deal. He’s not afraid to sacrifice his life for his family. His Father made a deal with the devil to save Dean and in return he did the same for Sam. Hi, who’s winning the unselfish Brother of the Year Award?

    More after the jump…

    The CW Announces Fall Lineup

    The CW

**Update: I know that The CW has announced their new fall lineup but I need a few to mourn the death of the incredibly smart, incredibly witty, and ever great VERONICA MARS which was canceled.  I need a little bit to not hate The CW and then I will be back with their new lineup which thankfully still has those Winchesters.  Dawn Ostroff is a CUNextTuesday.

The CW will be announcing their lineup today and folks, there are a couple tidbits that TVGuide are already reporting.

The first being that Kristen Bell might be narrating Josh Schwartz’s new show GOSSIP GIRL (post ANTM). Sounds good to me, but I hope they don’t have the balls to ask her to narrate a new show when they might not renew her own show.

Top Model will remain on Tuesday’s at 8pm, SUPERNATURAL will remain on Thursdays at 9pm after Smallville. On Wednesday, it looks like Beauty and the Geek will be back (how and why I do not know).

Reaper will follow Beauty and the Geek which means Veronica Mars goes where?

    Official word to come soon…

    Supernatural Finale Tonight

    Supernatural The CW
    Supernatural Season 2 Finale Tonight

All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 concludes a spectacular Season 2 in which those Winchester boys and the show really found their comfort zone and created incredibly scary and witty television.

This is also the episode I got to see film when I went out to Vancouver for the Supernatural Set Visit!

Here is the picture that breaks my frakkin’ heart!
    Supernatural Finale

Seriously it almost brings tears to my eyes to look at! Don’t you just want to hug Dean/Jensen and rub his strong back and caress his sweet pretty fa… wait, hello!

Tune in tonight to see how this kick ass show ends a kick ass year. The CW tonight at 9pm.

*UPDATE: My thoughts on the finale have been posted here.

Supernatural “What Is And Should Never Be”

    Supernatural Reunion

Supernatural gets better and better with each passing episode. Last week’s DVR snafu caused the Winchesters to be pushed out of the recording slot and into dvr limbo which caused some cursing and some throwing but thanks to my friends at iTunes, we’re golden.

“What Is and Should Never Be” was one hell of an emotional roller coaster of sadness and thrills. Jensen Ackles did the acting of a lifetime as he lived out the nightmare world that would be his perfect wish… having his Mother alive and seeing Sam with Jess. Too bad it came with a price. Papa Winchester was still dead, though this time of a stroke and oh yeah, did I mention the part where a semi-sexy tattooed evil Genie was killing him softly?

Dean is still that little boy that watched his family be ripped apart by a demon, who couldn’t become his own person because he was thrown into “hunting” with his Father while his brother was allowed to traipse off to College leaving him with the burdens of the family and the brunt of the baggage that comes along with being a Winchester.

Dean got the harsh reality of what could have been and by eps end, what should never be. Scripted by the shows creator Eric Kripke, it was an emotional episode that not only opened up the character of Dean, but opened the mythology wrapped around this series.

I broke Dean’s heart (and mine) to see that he has no relationship with Sam. It broke my heart to catch a glimpse of hope and happiness on all the Winchester’s faces knowing the reality of the situation. Simply superb storytelling.

Now lets get to the fun stuff!

TV Makes Me Mad - Thursday

Why oh why must the networks mess with us? Last night we had a DVR meltdown because NBC had to schedule The Office at such a retarded time that it screwed up my previously set recordings for Supernatural and the 2 hours Grey’s Anatomy.

    Seriously?

    Seriously!

I can’t record three things at once so it automatically cancelled Supernatural. The Series Priority still remembers Grey’s as being at the top of my list which lately you all know is soooo not the case. Supernatural got dumped so that the Dundies could interfere with the Winchester Boys and this morning I’m still reeling from it. I missed Jessica (aka Tyra from Friday Night Lights) and her return to the “living” along with Mama Winchester. That’s insane to me. I missed Jessicyra! How dare you NBC… The CW should sue someone.

Did this happen to anyone else?

Catching Up With Last Weeks TV

I haven’t really been able to watch television for the week or two leading up to the Independent Film Festival of Boston but now that it’s over, I can play some catch up!

    American Idol
I did not see last week’s charity head case known as American Idol “Idol Gives Back” and from the clips I’ve seen online and in the recaps, those white outfits were not so horrible I wouldn’t have been able to sustain three hours of it anyway. I got news of the double elimination sometime later in the week and until that point I was working under the notion that Jordin Sparks was kicked off. Yeah, someone played a cruel joke.

I was pleasantly surprised to find she in fact was not kicked off (nor was anyone). Then I got sent a picture of who until I received this picture was my new choice for winning this lame season of Idol. The picture is of Jordin with a Pro-Life sign. Guess who’s no longer my choice to win American Idol?

    Jordin Sparks Pro-Life

Last night The Alien and Chris Richardson got the boot. Oh well… as long as my Blake is there, that’s all that matters. How amazing is Blake? He’s unreal. And PS - A Chris Richardson/Blake Lewis sandwhich is pretty amazing to think about…

    Heroes
5 Years into the future is way OOC! They did a really good job with moving the stakes of this show waaaaaaaay up! Insane how much went down this week. Peter looks manly with that scar and his ass is dating crazy Niki. Sylar’s killed a lot more people, including the President of the United States, Nathan Petrelli, Candice, and finally he has taken out the Cheerleader. HRG is in contact with Claire, works as a smuggler of kinds for those with abilities. The Haitian was working with Homeland Security which is now run by Parkman. Hiro’s bad ass subway sword Hiro and poor Ando’s dead. Unreal…

    Brothers & Sisters
Can you imagine this show without Rob Lowe? Could Emily Van Camp be playing a more evil and twisted whore? Could Kevin’s lips be any more pink? Could Nora be any better? Could Justin be more of a wet blanket? Could Rachel Griffith be acting her ass off anymore? Still really enjoying this show!

    Drive
Um, I started basically 24-hour festival duties on Tuesday and somewhere in that time, Fox cancelled DRIVE. I was wondering what happened Monday night because it didn’t record. Lame. I’m really digging the show and seriously, poor Amy Acker and Nathan Fillion NEED SHOWS THAT CAN SURVIVE!

    Supernatural
Folsom Prison Blues was a great episode. The ghouls and demons were wonderfully creepy and seriously, Dean was waaaaaaay funny this past week. I loved the whole “What are we? From Texas?” comment and also Sam asking Dean if he was at all concerned with how into Prison life he was. Jensen’s really had some shining moments this season and with each episode I become more and more of a fan. Also a nice added touch to last week’s episode were all the references to previous jobs and the consequences of their actions. I really appreciate that the writers keep that in our minds. Lesser shows wouldn’t even address previous criminal acts and I like the justified but incorrect way they rationalize all of it.

    Grey’s Anatomy
While there were moments to last week’s episode that rang true for the Grey’s I used to love and adore, there are still elements that annoy the shit out of me. I couldn’t be more over this whole George/Izzie thing. It’s beyond obvious that Callie knows something is up and that the show is holding out on the confrontation until the end of sweeps. The whole Derek/Meredith thing is retarded. He’ll be in the hospital where she’ll be working, it’s so not the same sitch as Adele and Richard. All I kept thinking the whole episode was how great it would be if the spin-off was better than Grey’s so I could stop watching this Titanic of a show.

    Lost
Last week’s Sun episode of Lost was friggin traumatic. Granted when I watched it, I’d had only about 10 hours of sleep in 5 days so I may have been hormonally off balance but hot damn did I cry through most of the episode. Sun’s transformation mimics that of Juliet’s. The character they are today on the island couldn’t be further from who they were off the island. Juliet was so mild and meek and such a wet blanket. Her demeanor is so different and more confident and ruthless since the 3 years have passed. Sun is similar. Her whole character and her whole physical being is different from flashback to present. Incredible acting and incredible transformations make both of these women compelling and strong while showing they weren’t always so.

And there is nothing better than watching Sun tell a withered old whore that she’ll drop of the power of her family onto her and crush her if she dare show her face around Sun or Jin again. Amen sister! Tears for Jin’s father, Tears for Sun’s situation, Tears for Juliet wanting to give good news, Tears for Sun discovering the baby really is Jin’s and being happy instead of devestated she’ll only have three months left to live. I was a soaking mess after that hour.

I don’t remember if I watched anything else. It was all a fog. I’m trying to play catch up but it’s hectic as I’m also moving in a week. More to come…

    Supernatural “Hollywood Babylon”

    Hollywood Babylon

Okay so I’m a bad fan (or maybe just busy) and just watched this past week’s episode of SUPERNATURAL. There are so many things about it that I just have to dive right in…

The Gilmore Girls reference and Sam’s facial expression - Priceless

Sam (on the LA weather): “It’s practically Canadian!”

Gary Cole is always great and sure is dead!

    Dean: “What’s a P.A.?”
Sam: “I think they’re kinda like slaves.”

Could Dean have been more into Craft Services? Hysterical.

I loved the idea of the studio creating fake deaths and accidents on set to create a buzz while acting as a motivator for the cast.

Dean’s movie trivia/knowledge is quite extensive, who knew?

The 3 Men & a Baby reference - Loved it

Sam: “Maybe the spirits are trying to shut down the movie because it sucks?”

Did Walter remind you of Jonathan from Buffy? Just not as cute or funny.

The Die Hard line… I almost died when Dean said it: “Come out to the Coast, get together, have a few laughs…”

    “You’re One Hell of a P.A.”

And I was so excited because there were all these references and visuals from my set visit! Within minutes I saw some folks from production roaming around the fake Hollywood set. The one I was most excited about was Fan Coordinator Lesley DeHaan whom Sam bumped into on set. Shout out to my girl Lesley, love her!

    Supernatural Lesley

Next was the fake movie poster for the slasher flick Carnivore Carnival which I got a picture of.

    Carnivore Carnival

One of the Visual FX shots we saw them creating in the second VX trailer was used in “Hollywood Babylon.” We got to see one of the main FX guys working on adding the Verizon logo to Sam’s phone. Its the phone that they wield around to see the spirits and that Verizon logo was not originally on there. They had to digitally add it to every frame of the shots. *Interesting tidbit, the fingers seen holding the phone do not belong to JPad, but rather to the actual VFX artist involved in creating the visual. How fun.

It wasn’t the best episode of Supernatural but it was great to see a different (and more fun) side to Dean while Sam had to play the straight man. I cannot wait until next week when we get the return of some Winchesters and their spouses…

    Supernatural’s All New Tonight

    Supernatural Gary Cole

The first new SUPERNATURAL episode since my visit to the set is tonight and its called “Hollywood Babylon.”

I’m psyched to see the boys, see the various sets and to see if I recognize anything we saw lying around any of the sound stages while we were there. I’m hoping that something random in the props area or a left over set might trigger a memory which will make me love the show even more.

Entertainment Weekly this past week named Supernatural their Must Watch of the Week so hopefully more people will tune in and see JPad and my newest TV Boyfriend Jensen Ackles kick some ass.

The always incredible Gary Cole guest stars tonight as Brad Redding (channelling his Office Space character - you’ll see) when the boys pay a visit to a Hollywood Horror set that sounds a little on the Poltergeist set incident myth side. Them Winchester’sm even on vacation they can’t not fight the dark forces… of the Studio System!
